Namalata 7s | Fans gear up for 7s bonanza

Anticipation hangs thick in the air as the Fiji Bitter Namalata 7s tournament gears up for a weekend of electrifying rugby festivities.

The two-day event promises an adrenaline-pumping display of rugby prowess as 24 teams from various corners of Fiji prepare to fiercely compete for the coveted top honour at the Namalata Central School ground. Namalata Central School Principal, Tevita Seru said the tournament, commencing today, not only symbolises a celebration of sport but also embodies a spirit of resilience and community solidarity.

“Last year we were rated as one of the best organised Fiji Bitter 7s tournament and now being selected to host the first leg is an honour.

“Although time was not on our side as we were only given one week to publish and promote our tournament after the launching, we are happy to host 24 teams this year who come from as far as Taveuni, Nadroga and Navosa.”

For the school, the event signifies more than just a weekend of rugby.

“The intention of organising this is to assist the school in its rebuilding and rehabilitation after continually being damaged by three consecutive cyclones in the last 6 years.

“To meet the criteria set by our sponsors we had to adopt a rugby team and assist them in developing the players so that they also get some exposures to develop their talent and skills as well as to foster their growth from grassroot to national level,” Seru said.

The stakes are high, with the winner set to walk away with a substantial $5000 prize money.
