2023 PACIFIC GAMES | Fiji women thrash Solomons 82-43

The Fiji women’s basketball team hammered the Solomon Islands 82-43 in their opening Pacific Games pool match.

It was the first time for them to play together as a team because some players were overseas during the preparation period.

Coach Earl Hughes said they had a slow start but they found their rhythm in the third quarter.

“It was an interesting match for us,” he said.

“It took some time for us to get going but we are happy with outcome considering that this is the first time for us to play as a team and to get 80 points in the manner we did.

“We set the bar quite high for ourselves so we are looking to get our there and dominate.

“So, we just have to execute, control what we can and we are very much looking forward to the match against Guam,

“I think mentally we are fine, we know how Guam plays and they know how we play so we just have to get out there and execute.”

The Fiji women’s basketball side takes on Guam tomorrow 12pm at Friendship Hall.
