Visitors to face Fiji heat

Unbeaten after seven Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific rounds, the Hurricanes face a tough test in Suva on Friday against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua.

The Fiji heat and crowd are two things the Canes are expecting the Drua to bank on while also understanding that the Fijian franchise is a hard team to beat on home soil.

They know this all too well after their 24-27 loss to Mick Byrne’s men last season.

“They feed off the heat and off the crowd. We’re preparing for it, and we know what’s coming,” Hurricanes centre Billy Proctor said.

“They’re tough to play at home. They’re great athletes, tough to tackle. We’ve got to be prepared for everything they’re going to bring.”

The Hurricanes took a lot of confidence from their win over the Chiefs over the weekend but, Proctor added that their poor discipline and penalty count is something that cannot be repeated.

“We know that if we do that in Fiji, it’s going to be a very long, tough day for us.”

The Hurricanes arrived in Suva last night and will have their captain’s run at the HFC Bank Stadium at 2pm today.

Tomorrow’s match will kick off at 7.05pm also marking the Drua’s first night Super Rugby match at home.
