WITH the win against Moana Pasifika now in the bag, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will now turn its focus to their tasks on foreign soil.
Swire Shipping Fijian Drua prop Livai Natave who came off the bench in the 24-17 win against Moana Pasifika yesterday said the team understands how crucial the next few matches are.
While they celebrate and enjoy victory on home soil, getting the same result in away games has been a struggle.
“We are thankful for the win today but we have to leave it here because we have other important matches coming up,” he said.
“The next two are both away games and we haven’t done well overseas but best believe the boys will put their head down and do the work required to keep us in the top eight.”
With the competition heating up as teams battle for a place in the top eight, the Drua understands every point will count.
“Throughout the week, we prepared for this match with the mentality that it could be a deciding game for us. This game was one that had the potential to decide whether we stay in the top eight or not and whether we could reach the quarter-finals,” he added.
Like other teams, Moana exposed some areas the Drua have to improve on.
“The first half was what we expected to be, tough and physical especially in this condition. We lost a bit of focus in the second half, allowing Moana to get back in the game but I thank the boys for coming away with the win today.”
Natave and the Drua will travel to Canberra, Australia next week, where they will face the Brumbies at GIO Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Brumbies breathed new life into their Super Rugby Pacific title charge, knocking off the league-leading Hurricanes 27-19 at GIO Stadium yesterday.
