Swire Shipping Fijian Drua co-captain Tevita Ikanivere said to have six tries scored against them is quite shameful.
The Fijian Drua suffered a heavy 10-48 defeat at the hands of the Western Force on Saturday night as they showed glimpses of a team quite different from the one that played in Canberra just a week earlier.
The positives taken from the match against the Brumbies fuelled hope of a first win on overseas soil but the Fijian side just did not click against the Force, giving away 17 points in the early minutes of the match and only registering three from a penalty for a 3-17 scoreline at halftime.
Ikanivere said there isn’t any excuse for the loss as they spent a good week in Perth acclimatising and getting used to the different time zone.
“It hurts a lot, quite ashamed we got that much scored against us. I know we are a better team than that and we just have to learn now and move on,” he said during the post-match press conference.
Ikanivere agreed with head coach Mick Byrne that each player needs to deeply reflect on their own performance.
“We have to go back and look at ourselves, we gained the momentum but then once we lost it, I’m not sure what went wrong.”
The team returned to the country yesterday and will have a couple of days to train before the hosting the Reds in Suva on Saturday.
The Drua face the Reds at the HFC Bank Stadium at 2.05pm.
