The Boxing Commission of Fiji reissued the South Pacific Boxing Promotion’s (SPBP ) license as there was no evidence to prove the allegations against them.
BCF chairman Adi Narayan made this comment while responding to the claims of former boss Dr Subhash Appana which was published in The Fiji Times on July 3.
Dr Appana refused to renew the license of the SPBP last year after some allegations surfaced on promoters using boxers for their own gains.
He also told The Fiji Times that an investigation was done, and a resolution passed however, that did not see the light of day when the new board took over.
“Let me tell him and the media that when I was given the information during the handover, I had a flash drive and in it the only information that was recorded against the South Pacific Boxing Promotion was a letter from someone in New Zealand, a boxing official,” he said during a press conference yesterday.
“When we were appointed, we looked at all those information, under the very second meeting we decided to ignore whatever resolution happened and start a clean sheet with SPBP, they were given the license back, they came back with flying colors, they’ve put two to three shows so far, very successful ones and I don’t see anything wrong with that.”
Narayan pointed out that the issue had became personal between Dr Appana and SPBP promoter Fredy Chand.
“They had, no facts, no evidence, its an allegation so, on that he (Dr Appana) took action on his own. It wasn’t the BCF board, it was him so that became personal between Fredy Chand and Subhash Appana.”
The BCF chair said that Chand has informed of his issues with Dr Appana and is seeking legal advice on the matter.
