Serevi affirms tourney vision

Rugby 7s legend Waisale Serevi believes the McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast Sevens is achieving it’s vision of hosting the biggest international invitational tournament in the world.

Serevi who is heavily involved in the tournament with the Fijian Drua 7s team said every year the Coral Coast Sevens has grown bigger and better.

He said it’s benefits is not limited only to one group of people but to every team and player that has taken part in the tournament.

“The goal was to try and get international exposure to Fiji, for the local players to taste international exposure.

“A lot of good teams are coming, we have Samoa, New Zealand, Australia and it’s getting better and tougher. Who else will benefit, the Fijian boys that are here and of course the teams coming out of Fiji,” he said.

Every year since the inception of the tournament, the Coral Coast Sevens is proving why Fiji has the capacity of even hosting a leg of the HSBC SVNS Series.

“I believe the goal is to try and get the biggest tournament in the world to Fiji. That has been the vision and I believe we are starting to get that. It’s going to be the biggest international invitational tournament in the world I can say, it is the only tournament in the world that is free.

“This is top class rugby, there’s international invitational rugby like Coral Coast, Dubai and Darwin and then we have the HSBC SVNS Series. That means all the players that are here have the goal of representing their national teams internationally,” Serevi added.

Serevi thanked Coral Coast 7s founder Jay Whyte for starting the tournament and fulfilling the vision every year.
