More work needed at Labasa Airport before allowing night flights

Fiji Link states more work needs to be done at the Labasa Airport before night flights can be conducted there.

The airline made the comment after a risk assessment exercise, carried out by Fiji Link, revealed that more work was needed at the Labasa Airport before night flights could begin.

The company stated they had made recommendations for Fiji Airports Ltd (FAL) to carry out further works.

Although the domestic carrier did not divulge details of the works required, the company stated normal operations of three flights a day would continue at Labasa.

Two years ago, the Labasa Airport was certified for night operations following an investment of $620,000 by FAL to upgrade infrastructure to facilitate night flights.

Night flight tests were conducted but discontinued after Fiji Link recommended FAL carry out more work following the assessment.
