Put funds to work – Kamikamica | Calls to invest in Pacific’s future

PENSION and provident funds across the Pacific must act as nation-builders by channeling capital into co-investments that secure members’ retirements while developing regional infrastructure, says Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica.

Speaking at the Pacific Islands Investment Forum in Nadi yesterday, Mr Kamikamica highlighted the bold partnership between the Pacific Islands Investment Forum and the United Nations Joint SDG Fund as a vital catalyst for mobilising capital.

“This partnership is a beacon of what is possible when vision meets action,” he said.

Mr Kamikamica emphasised that funds achieve a dual purpose when they co-invest in climate-smart solutions, renewable energy, digital transformation, and affordable housing.

He said they deliver required financial returns while actively building the very region where members will retire.

Mr Kamikamica challenged participants at the week-long conference to focus on practical outcomes, urging them to establish a robust new co-investment platform, build a strong pipeline of investable opportunities, and enhance institutional investment skills.

Highlighting Fiji’s dedication to regional cooperation, Mr Kamikamica stated that the nation stands ready to support an enabling environment where sustainable growth can flourish.

He also reminded attendees that current investments must generate long-term resilience and financial security for the younger generation.

“Like the Vaka that carries us across the ocean, our shared investments grounded in collaboration, sharpened by education, and realised through co-investing must carry our region toward greater financial security and prosperity.”
