Nasinu dominates FTU sports event

Nasinu FTU dominated the finals of the Fiji Teachers Union annual sports event at Rishikul Sanatan School grounds in Nasinu yesterday.

Nasinu womens won the netball competition defeating Suva 10-8 in the final while the men’s team took out the volleyball competition defeating Taveuni.

FTU Sports chairman Rajnesh Lingam said it was good to see sports return after a lapse of two years.

“Competition was tough considering that the sports tournament was played after a lapse of two years. All teams prepared well for the three-day tournament,” Lingam said.

“Members had an opportunity to meet each other, socialise and expand their circle of friends. The FTU executives were pleased with the attendance at the three-day tournament.”

There was tough competition in football as well as Rewa and Lautoka played out in a nail-biting final.

National football rep Anish Khem led Rewa to a 2-1 win in the final. Lingam said the presence of national reps lit up the football competition.

“The standard of competition was tough. District reps like Anish Khem, Daniel Dass and Edwin Sahayam featured in the three-day tournament.”

The FTU Sports tournament will be held in Labasa next year.
