Fijian Drua focus within

The next two home games will be crucial for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in terms of reaching the playoffs in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific.

The Fijian Drua have recorded three wins from its opening eight games and two have been in Fiji against the Crusaders and the Melbourne Rebels.

The other win was against Moana Pasifika in the opening round.

The Drua play the Blues in Lautoka this Saturday and then face the Hurricanes in Suva a week later. Coach Mick Byrne says while there is pressure from the outside to perform, the team is focusing on what is to be done.

“Our team understands where we are in the community as well and we understand there’s an expectation from us, being the team we are and the fans we have. Our boys are embracing that challenge,” Byrne said.

“When we talk about pressure, there is always pressure, but no pressure inside, the pressure is there on the outside.”

He added the pressure put on them gives them an opportunity to do better every time the team takes the field.

“Internally, we don’t see it as pressure, we see it as an opportunity to perform, opportunity to do what we are good at. Here we are focused on the efforts to go in to perform and learn your craft, learn your trade, to get your clarity right.

“The pressure is on the outcome of the result. We are just confident of how we prepare ourselves and play.

“We do really focus on what we do. It helps us.”

Meanwhile, robust wing Eroni Sau and halfback Frank Lomani have recovered from their injuries and are in training this week. The Fijian Drua face the Blues at 2.05pm at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
