FIJI Water Flying Fijians prop Eroni Mawi says there is no competition between overseas-based players and the Fijian Drua players in the squad for spots in the final team.
Mawi said the players had talked about it before the start of camp in Taveuni.
“There is nothing such as competing as we are all pushing each other to do better. We have talked about it and we had decided it is all about Fiji in the end and there will be no individual preference from the players,” Mawi said.
Unlike the usual training camps for the national side, the players are all camped in a hall at Welagi Village.
Mawi said this was something good to experience and their memories of playing for secondary school and clubs have come flooding back.
“This is the first time we have had such a camp for the national team. It is something good I think. Usually we would be spending our own times in our own rooms on our phones, but like this we
get more time together.
“It also reminds us of who we are and where we all started. It reminds us to stay humble, to remember the struggles our families went through.”
Mawi and the team will return to Nadi this Saturday.
