The final Long Course Invitational meet for Fiji Swimming comes to an end at the Olympic Pool in Suva today.
The meet serves as a trials/qualifier for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands in November. Looking at the results yesterday, none of the swimmers managed to meet qualifying times in the events.
Fiji Swimming head of technical and meet director Trisa Cheer said while swimmers had met times in previous events, they’re trying to meet times so they can increase the number of events they take part in.
“Some swimmers had met their times in some events in the previous LC competitions but they’re trying to increase their events. We are hoping some will be able to before the competition comes to a close tomorrow(today),” Cheer said.
She added the competition yesterday started on a low note with 52 swimmers taking part.
“It started on a low note but slowly picked up towards the afternoon. There are some swimmers who are already ranked in respective events but haven’t made the times, so they need to make those times,” she added.
The selected names will be handed to the selection committee to further proceed on naming the final team.
“We have a separate selection committee who then selects with the information provided which includes attendance, consistency and all that stuff.
“From there it will be submitted to FASANOC where the selection justification committee will justify the selection and release the names.”
She says swimmers will need to meet the required criteria to make the team to the Solomon Islands.
