Talei back World Cup bid

Fiji Bulikula second rower Talei Holmes believes the side has what it takes to play at a World Cup.

The Bulikula team was formed in 2019 where they thumped Pacific giants Papua New Guinea Orchids 28-nil.

The match against Samoa in the Pacific Championship is a build up for next year’s Women’s Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers.

“Since that match in 2019, we have had many of our girls join the NRLW competition which is a positive sign. We have a mixture of youth and experience as well so the future looks bright for the team,” the NRLW Rookie of the Year said.

Holmes said the match this week would set the platform for the team heading into next year.

“If anything, the match against Samoa will let us know where we stand. We would be together for a week before the Test but that should not be an excuse as most of the girls play top level rugby league week in, week-out.”
