McKenzie to test Drua’s rookie star flyhalf

It will be an interesting battle at the number 10 position when the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua take on the Chiefs in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific clash in Hamilton today.

Rookie Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula, who has played three Super Rugby matches, will be up against the experience of Damian McKenzie, who has 113 Super Rugby games for the Chiefs under his name.

Armstrong-Ravula, who has been good with his boots this season, has kicked 24 points for the Drua while McKenzie leads the season’s points tally with 40, while he has scored 1121 points in his Super Rugby career.

The Fijian has shown his skills with ball in hand that is something his opposite number is known for.

McKenzie’s sleek runs make him one of the most dangerous attacking players of the game.

It will be interesting to see how our 20-year-old matches up to the 47-Test cap veteran of the All Blacks.

Armstrong-Ravula was born in New Zealand and has experience of playing in the National Provincial Championship.

He came into the limelight after outstanding performances for the Fiji under-20 side last year. Meanwhile, the Fijian Drua have gained 587 meters per game on average in the competition this season.

This is more than any other team, while the Chiefs have averaged the second most metres per game (559).

The Drua also have a good record at scrums having won all 27 of its own feeds, the Reds being the only other team to do so winning 18 of its own feeds.

The match kicks off at 6.30pm.
