A closing time of 2am would be ideal for nightclub operators, says Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Dr Ram Raju.
While welcoming the move by the Coalition Government to review nightclub hours, Dr Raju said the reduced time would not have much impact on operators.
“If anything this will have better returns on businesses in all respects,” he said.
“People will be mindful of early closing hours so go in early, enjoy the night out sensibly and responsibly and go home safely.”
He said the reduced opening hours would be a welcome relief for Nadi residents.
“The community has been waiting for changes and will be overjoyed if the nightclub hours are curbed.
“A more peaceful, responsible, meaningful and enjoyable social night can be embraced by every law abiding citizen or the community at large.
“Tourists alike will be more comfortable in going to nightclubs and in fact increase the patronage of these nightclubs in Fiji.”
He added that this was a win-win situation for everyone.
“The NCCI wishes to support the Honorable Prime Minister’s call for the review of night club hours.
“We had written earlier on this subject and submitted our position on this matter.
“The opening of night club until 5am in Fiji is definitely creating a lot of issues as highlighted recently we have witnessed increasing incidents of violence unruly behaviour,” said Dr Raju.
He said while the chamber had supported initial calls to extend opening hours, the social implications of the 5am closing times had become an issue.
“Fiji is perhaps the only place in the Pacific at least that is allowed such late opening hours.”
