Nata: Lift our game

Some services in the civil service need to be improved, says iTaukei Lands Trust Board acting chief executive officer Solomoni Nata.

Mr Nata made this observation following the public consultations with the taskforce dealing with land issues in the Western Division this week.

“We, as civil servants, must really lift our game,” Mr Nata said.

“I noticed that some of the issues being raised are operational and lack of service issues. These are issues that we can address by just improving our services.”

Mr Nata said the consultations had been enlightening.

“We have been hearing a lot of issues concerning land leases, land boundaries, and tenancy issues.

“They are very good feedback which we can use to find the areas that we need to improve.

“The issues that we can address, we look into them as soon as we can but the long-term issues that will need to be analysed properly are being noted and we will be taking them back to the relevant government ministries.”

Koronubu sugarcane farmer Rajesh Lal said the renewal of his land lease was his main concern.

“Farming is my main source of income,” Mr Lal said.

“If I lose my land, I do not know what else I can do. “This taskforce is really good, but we will only be relieved if we see some real action being taken.

“We don’t want to constantly worry about this.”
