Award for community

Kilikali informal settlement has been recognised as a recycling advocating community.

This after residents successfully adopted the Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) program drawing recognition from the 2023 Advocates Influencing Mindsets and Mentoring Agents (AMMA) Awards.

According to PRF, the Nasinu-based settlement adopted the ‘I Recycle Hub’ tool which allowed residents to implement practical participation programs in recycling.

Through the program, residents were able to collect and recycle 900 kilograms of materials between June and December 2023.

PRF founder Amitesh Deo said they were proud of the commitment shown by the residents.

“The I Recycle Hub program is not just about recycling; it’s about empowerment and inclusivity,” said Mr Deo.

“Through this initiative, we aim to break barriers and ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to contribute to a cleaner environment.” Pacific Energy chief financial officer Julien Leraille added that they were grateful to be part of the program.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to advocates of Kilikali Settlement, recipients of the PRF’s AMMA Award 2023,” he said.

“Their passion and dedication exemplify the spirit of sustainability, and we are delighted to support their efforts in creating a positive impact within their community.”
