Operating casinos is their core business, and the group would not be able to establish a tourist-focused property without a casino, says David Group CEO Jofe Tam.

He said other businesses centred around entertainment and sports were also willing to invest in Fiji, however, they would be built around the casino.

“A lot of our investors and shareholders are all from mainland China,”Mr Tam said.

“So, we have the confidence to invite them to invest in Fiji and not only in the casino.

“They would like to invest in other aspects of the business, but the casino is the core business.

“If there is no casino then they will have no interest in coming.”

Mr Tam said they were willing to adhere to any policies set up by the Government under a proposed licence.

“They can set up the guidelines and set up a policy in the gambling licence application for us to fulfil.

“This is very important for any investor.”

Mr Tam said he was willing to meet Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to discuss their proposal.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has made it clear that no casino would be issued a licence until a framework was established.

He said the Cabinet had agreed that the decision would be deferred and established at a later date.
