Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua agrees with former assistant police commissioner Henry Brown that the early retirement of seasoned police officers is a concern.
Responding to the concerns raised by Mr Brown, Mr Tikoduadua said it meant the loss of invaluable experience.
“The issue of early retirement among seasoned officers is concerning, particularly due to the loss of invaluable experience and expertise,” said Mr Tikoduadua.
“The ministry is actively exploring strategies to retain skilled personnel, focusing on continuous professional development and fostering a supportive work environment that recognises their contributions.”
Mr Brown said most of the things officers learnt were through on-the-job training.
“You learn from your seniors, and you learn from the ones above you and they impart their knowledge and experience before they leave,” said Mr Brown.
