Drug related deaths worry police force

Assistant Commissioner of Police Senior Superintendent of Police Livai Driu has expressed concern over the number of gruesome deaths that continue to be reported each week.

Mr Driu said they were especially concerned about drug related deaths.

“We have seen that some of the deaths that are being investigated are drug related,” Mr Driu said.

“We are continuing with our investigations and while we do not want to say anything that could impact in the investigations we do see that there are more of these cases coming up.

“There seems to be a trend with these alleged murders and they are not only dealing with the white drugs but also the green ones.

The assistant commissioner said some of the perpetrators were under the influence of these drugs when they offended while others seemed more intentional.

“From the police force, we continue to do our work and investigations.

“We have officers who have been trained to do this and we continue to work with our partners to bring down organised criminal groups.

“We have cartels and criminal elements that we are working against here so we have to work together to be able to dismantle and disrupt them.”
