High valued-deals including a project management contract worth $3.6million for Walesi Fiji were awarded without calling a tender.
Presenting a special audit of the company in Parliament yesterday, Minister for Communications Manoa Kamikamica said the project manager for the Digital Television Transmission Setup project was the paid this whopping sum.
“A review of the project management contract revealed the following. Scope of work was broad, the deliverables and timelines were not detailed, the contract did not have a closure date and cost limit,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the audit noted four critical issues.
“Progress reports to the board were not submitted in a consistent manner, there was no evidence to indicate whether project costs were properly monitored as there were no documentations provided during the audit, there was no project closure or status report provided when the consultant exited and there was no evidence provided during the audit to confirm whether proper handling over was performed by project manager at the termination of contract.”
Mr Kamikamica said the audit revealed the filth that lay underneath the operations of Walesi Fiji.
“Public funds vanished into thin air. A disgraceful squandering of resources.
“The findings of this audit expose the failures of the past in stark detail, and we will fix them.”
