THE Commissioner Western’s office has delivered 19.1million litres of water to affected areas in the Western Division at a cost of $794,000 since July 2015.
And it expects an additional $300,000 for the water emergency response exercise until the end of February.
West divisional planning officer Sitiveni Tavaga said the Water Emergency Response Taskforce team in Lautoka continued to deliver water to affected communities.
“We have been able to address the situation on the ground and so far we have managed to assist our affected communities with the available resources that we have,” Mr Tavaga said.
“The situation has improved a bit but that will not stop us from responding to people’s requests.”
He said further funding had been sought to sustain the taskforce until next month.
“Our request for funding is still being processed and so far we’ve asked for $100,000 to assist us until the end of January and another $200,000 for the month of February.
“We are expecting the funds to be released before the end of this week or early next week.”
He added requests from members of the public would be assessed before water was delivered.
“When we get the request, we will send out our officials to these areas where they will make an assessment to inspect the area and determine whether there is a need for water.
“Once we know that, then we will deliver the water.”
