Rehabilitation works continue in affected areas

COMMISSIONER Western Manasa Tagicakibau says Government rehabilitation will now focus on women and children.

He said as Government continued rehabilitation works in affected areas in the Western Division, relief items distributed to affected areas in the region would also include kits for women and children.

“We will be looking at providing kitchen utensils, beddings like pillows and blankets because for some families everything was destroyed,” he said.

“When we went on the Prime Minister’s tour of some affected areas in the West, we found that there were a lot of needs from some of the communities.”

He said people were requesting construction equipment and supplies to rebuild their homes.

“There were people who needed portable sawmills and others who wanted chainsaws. We are going to try and facilitate those needs.”

He said a second round of food rations would be distributed to remote areas especially those in Ra.

“In this second round of distribution we will also be giving out building supplies and equipment,” he said.

According to the National Disaster Management Office, the Western Division racked up a bill of $52.8million to its agriculture sector.
