Works on four-way lane slows down

WORK on the new Nadi four-way lane has slowed down because of Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Fiji Roads Authority Nadi road upgrade project manager Zaira Khan said the authority was waiting on the Fiji Electricity Authority to complete its power restoration work across the country.

“Well, work is progressing but obviously we’ve had to slow it down a bit in a couple of areas because some of our workers have also been diverted to rehabilitation works,” she said.

“We’re also waiting on FEA to complete their power restoration efforts before they can work on the moving of electricity cables and power lines in our upgrade project.”

The authority is developing a four-way lane stretch along Nadi’s main street that runs through to Namaka and the town’s busiest stretch, Martintar.

According to the authority, its second road upgrade in Nadi would stretch from the Enamanu Rd junction, past Fanstasy Island through to Navakai before exiting at Denarau Rd in Narewa Village.

China Railway No.5 Engineering Group (CR5G) has been tasked to complete the new route which is close to two metres long.

FRA has also revealed that a number of electricity poles had been relocated and commissioned for use by FEA while 1.9 kilometres of unused cane rails had also been dismantled to make way for the new road.
