WITH more than two weeks left for the country’s State of Disaster declaration, the Commissioner Western’s office has adopted a relieving system for DISMAC officials who have been working round-the-clock on the region’s recovery efforts.
Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau said work over the past 30 days had been stressful and it was important for every civil servant to get enough rest.
“It has been a high stress atmosphere that we have been exposed to over the last 30 days and we are now moving into our next 30 days,” he said.
“We had a meeting with all of the heads of departments in the Western Division and what I requested them to do was to work on a relief system for their staff.
“There are staff who are working in the DISMAC teams that should be relieved and be given some time to recuperate and rest.
“In the meantime we bring in people who are not engaged in other work.”
He said while some had been relieved of their duties, others could not be given the same luxury.
“In saying that, we do acknowledge that there will be some people who cannot be relieved and they will need to be in their current posts until all of this ends,” Mr Tagicakibau said.
