THE Lautoka City Council is urging ratepayers to store their rubbish properly in airtight bins.
LCC chief executive officer Jone Nakauvadra said putting rubbish in plastic bags was not an ideal way of storing rubbish.
“This is so that dogs don’t get to them. There will always be dogs everywhere so people need to be mindful of that,” Mr Nakauvadra said.
“The plastic bags are more vulnerable to being taken down by dogs.”
He said the council was not engaged in any stray dog campaigns.
Yesterday, this newspaper received complaints of shredded rubbish strewn across a park along Morris St in Lautoka.
Mr Nakauvadra said the park was near a residential area where many dogs were pets.
He said the issue of rubbish being foraged by dogs could be avoided if people made an effort of storing rubbish properly.
