‘Education important’

EDUCATION remains an important sector for the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam Fiji.

National president Sadasiwan Naicker said the religious body had 27 institutions in the country with more than 10,000 students.

“Education is one of our pillars,” he said during a two-day seminar in Nadi.

“It’s a sector that we believe will offer a bright future not only for our people but for our future generations .”

He said this was one of the reasons the religious body held annual meetings with managers and headteachers of Sangam schools.

“We always have these meetings each year to ensure that our heads of schools are aware of changes not only within the education sector but also in TISI Sangam.

“We have a few key speakers from the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority and the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption and they are going to talk about their different services.

“They’ll also be talking about good governance and good moral values that we need to keep encouraging and instilling in our schools.

“We need uniformity and stable leadership to ensure the growth of our students and our institutions.”

While opening the two-day seminar in Nadi yesterday, acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said having values was important for students to be able to pursue their dreams and education.
