Smiles and tears

PARENTS shared tears of joy during a visit by members of the Rotaract Club of Nadi New Horizons to their children admitted at the Lautoka and Nadi hospital’s children’s wards.

The 10-member group of good Samaritans visited the two wards armed with Christmas presents for the young patients.

Club secretary Priya Prasad said some of the children’s parents cried when they handed out presents to the children.

“No one wants to spend Christmas in hospital and we can understand why some of them (parents) were very emotional when we visited them,” she said.

“We had presents and fruit baskets for their children and we brought along a clown to put a smile on the children’s faces.”

Ms Prasad said the group had been planning since October for the visit to Nadi and Lautoka hospitals where they handed out gift packs to 22 sick children.

“We fundraised. All our 25 members helped in raising money and getting people to donate what they could.

“This was our Christmas project for the year and we were very happy with the outcome of the visits.”

The group had also visited Tropical Cyclone Winston affected families in Ra where they handed out items including clothes, seedlings and farming tools.

The club members made three visits to the cyclone hit region this year.
