YASAWA villagers are bracing for the worst if heavy rainy conditions persist.
Yasawa District representative Siona Ratulevu said villagers had been preparing themselves since Friday.
“We have our community halls ready and our people have been told where they can go if they have to move,” he said.
“The weather is very rough with a lot of rain.
“Our concern is our homes. Everyone is doing what they can to secure their homes.
“We have food supply stored away and people are just listening to the weather reports for what to expect.”
Divisional planning officer Sitiveni Tavaga said the Western Division Emergency Centre in Lautoka received daily reports from village headmen in the island group.
“So far we’ve received reports from Naviti, Yaqeta and Waya Island where they say there has been a lot of rain,” he said.
“We continue to stay in touch with them and advise them on what they need to be doing.
“So far villagers have been listening to our advisories and if there is any other change we will immediately inform all of the centres not only in the Yasawas but also in the rest of the Western Division.”
