The Sigatoka Town Council is working closely with the Ministry of Health to carry out spraying campaigns as far as Keiyasi and Momi Bay.
Council special administrator Adish Naidu said the campaigns went beyond the council’s boundaries to ensure that each ward was covered in their fight against the spread of dengue fever.
“Our extended boundaries go as far as Keiyasi, Momi Bay and Mango Bay and that includes building inspections and subdivision developments,” Mr Naidu said.
“The health aspect in these areas goes to the Ministry of Health but we have joined hands with them to help in addressing the outbreak.
“So together with the ministry, we are conducting spray campaigns and working to cover the whole province.”
Mr Naidu also called on the public to take responsibility for their environment.
“Everybody needs to do their part. If they see any stagnant water or overgrowth, clean it up.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs issued a caution for villagers to also take heed of government’s advice on the rising dengue fever cases.
In a statement, the ministry called on villagers and administrators of provincial councils to ensure villages were administering precautionary measures.
