THE Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is working to improve the supply of water to elevated areas in Nadi.
According to WAF, a main transmission pipeline from Nadele to the Votualevu Rice Mill junction has been successfully commissioned, resulting in a better supply frequency to affected residents.
WAF customer services general manager Sekove Uluinayau said the pipeline was 7.39 kilometres long and was fed from the Nagado Water Treatment Plant and was installed during the Nagado Water Treatment Plant shutdown in September.
“Because of the major upcoming and current developments happening in Nadi, it was imperative for WAF to undertake this project to meet the water demands from both our domestic and commercial customers,” he said.
He explained the new cross connection line was being opened extremely gradually to prevent any hydraulics imbalance that may disturb and burst any of WAF’s existing bulk supply lines because of the sudden boost in pressure and water supply.
He added WAF was also working to install two Tasman Tanks at 6 megalitres each and earthworks had begun at the Nawaicoba site in Nadi.
Another Tasman Tank that will be built at the Nadi Hospital will hold 1 megalitre.
“These tanks will be reservoirs to hold water to service areas in the vicinity and they are expected to be in operation towards the end of next year.”
