NEW destinations could be on the horizon for national airline Fiji Airways.
This was suggested by Minister for Aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum after the arrival of a second A350-900 extra-wide bodied aircraft earlier this month.
He explained that new markets could be explored once the aircraft began its commercial flights.
“Once we get the clearance from the 737 Max’s, and God willing that will be in the new year, Fiji Airways will have one of the most modern fleets in the world,” he said.
“We have two brand new A350s extra-wide bodied aircraft, we have the A330s — the 200 series and the 300 series — and then of course we have the 737s.
“We may now also look at some new destinations.
“We could tap into markets that we are currently aren’t in because we have to spread our risks and that could be something that is in the future for the airline.”
The A350s-900 series leased by the airline include the Island of Viti Levu and the Island of Vanua Levu.
Both aircraft have begun flying commercially to the US and Australia.
According to the airline, the A350s have longer flying hours and will service long haul destinations.
