Council to conduct ratepayer survey

The Lautoka City Council (LCC) has undertaken a ratepayer profiling survey that is expected to improve services provided by the administration, says CEO Mohammed Anees Khan.

He said the survey would also improve rate collection by the council.

“This exercise coincides with the sexennial valuation and will provide the council with updated and accurate information on the rates that should be billed in the forthcoming period,” he said.

“The data collected will help update the rates records, improve rate collection, improve on services LCC provides and analysis of data will definitely help in planning for future developments.”

He explained that services by the council relied on the rate payments by residents.

“LCC looks forward to working with all ratepayers collectively to improve on our rate collection and updates of records accordingly.”

In May this year, Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar confirmed 13 municipal councils were owed $42.4 million.

She said the Lautoka City Council was owed a total of $6.2 million in uncollected rates.
