The family of 21-year-old Mohammed Zaif Ali of Navutu settlement in Ba were in mourning yesterday after he died in a fatal accident along the Kings Rd.
The former Kamil Muslim College student was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his neighbour when the car hit a lamppost near Varavu settlement about 8am.
The deceased’s uncle, Jamal Ali, said the family was still in a state of shock as they prepared to bury the 21-year-old yesterday afternoon.
“We still don’t know what happened and how he ended up with his friend,” he said.
“All we know was that they were on their way to Varavu.”
He said the young man was a sugarcane farmer who was running the family farm.
“Straight after high school he was working and helping his father take care of their family.
“He was very hardworking and his family really depended on him.”
Initial investigations into the fatal accident revealed that the 21-year-old had died instantly at the crash site.
Police stated that the driver of the vehicle was rushed to the Ba Mission Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.
Investigations into the cause of the accident continues.
