A NEW committee set up to address the stray dog issue in Lautoka City will work with police to stop pig hunters.
The committee established by the Lautoka City Council earlier this month will also look into the sale of the animals at the Lautoka market.
Committee chairperson Mohammed Khan said these brutal crimes committed by pig hunters on unsuspecting dogs needed to stop.
“We want everybody to be on the same team,” he said.
“We need these people to be taken to task for their actions against their cruelty towards these animals.”
He added the group would also carry out awareness and education campaigns for residents.
“Control through animal birth control is important.
“Education or public outreaches should be a priority for all relevant authorities.”
LCC chief executive officer Mohammed Anees Khan said the committee would be handling all issues concerning stray dogs within the Sugar City.
“Details of the operations is still being discussed and yet to be finalised,” he said.
