National airline Fiji Airways has submitted a draft Travel Framework to Government that include a list of requirements for travellers and hoteliers to adhere to once international passenger flights resume.
Fiji Airways managing director and CEO Andre Viljoen says the response from Government on the proposed guideline has been favourable so far.
“It became very important that we assist Government on what flying will look like with what we call our Travel Framework,” he said.
“We have done a lot of research of other countries and how they have allowed flights to operate and we have basically started out this framework being an important framework to safeguard and provide the right protection for everyone.”
He said there were three core objectives of the proposed guideline.
“The first is to protect the people of Fiji, to allow the reopening of business and recover and grow the economy and to avoid or ease the burden on our health system.
“What we did with this draft framework and when I say this is a draft is because we had submitted this framework to the MCTTT (Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport and to the MOH and ultimately to Government to say that this is what we see will work best for Fiji.
“So this framework we have provided as a recommendation and we are now waiting for the announcement of what it will look like and then what we need to comply with.
“We are eagerly waiting for the announcement of when borders will reopen and when we can start international flights.”
