Blackrock facility to inject $4m monthly into Nadi economy

The multi-million dollar Blackrock peacekeeping, training and humanitarian response facility in Nadi will contribute about $4 million every month to the economy of the Jet Set town.

Defence Minister Inia Seruiratu said the new facility would bring new opportunities to Nadi including employment.

“This is really a testament of our Vuvale partnership,” he said.

“As a family we share a lot in common and this has seen deeper cooperation between Australia and Fiji.

“It has also brought about opportunities for the community here in Votualevu with a big $4 millon monthly injection into the local community and also offering employment to our locals.

“The project is not just about solidifying our defence partnership but rather to celebrate our growing personal relationship behind the Vuvale Partnership.”

He added that the Republic of Fiji Military Forces would benefit greatly from the new facility.

“This cooperation has benefitted the Fiji Military Forces immensely.

“This project also includes access to a level one hospital facility and a refuge in times of natural disasters to name a few.

“Additionally, it will also be a station of security to the community due to its proximity to the nearest police station.

“The centre will also serve and ensure that we will prepare our soldiers to international standards and any level of professionalism that is required by international peacekeeping missions.”
