The owners of Sunbeam Transport Ltd will await the result of police investigations into the Navo, Nadi, accident where one of their buses carrying 53 people collided with a locomotive along the Queens Highway last Sunday (September 11, 2022) afternoon.

Four people were critically injured in the accident.

“Right now, we cannot make any comments because it is being handled by the police,” a company representative said.

“Our driver is the only one who knows what happened and for now, we will leave that with the police to carry out their investigations.

“We are also doing our best to help the police with their investigation.”

One of the first people to help passengers were members of the Navua football team.

The players, together with their coaching staff members, were returning from a match at Prince Charles Park when they came across the accident.

Coach Sailosi Danford said they transported about eight people to the Nadi Hospital.

“From what we could see, the people that we took were the ones that were able to walk,” Mr Danford said.

“The seriously injured passengers had already been taken by other people who were also passing by the accident site.

“We saw a lot of blood everywhere, wallets and bags scattered across the road.

“We did what we could to help but it was very heartening to see that many people stopped to help.

“I saw one European man with his first aid kit stopping to help the passengers and there was another man who was stopping vehicles to transport the injured.”
