Kumar slams critics

Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Kumar has hit out at “sideline commentators” on social media calling on Government to stop initiatives such as income-generating projects for youths because it was an election year.

While speaking in Tavua this week, he said naysayers did not understand the business of Government.

“I wish to put things right to some sideline commentators on social media as we gear up for elections, that assistance provided to our youth are not giveaways or freebies,” Mr Kumar said.

“The business of government does not stop for anything or for anyone.

“I am amused to find some commentators coming up with nonsense that we should stop this activity like the opening of this income-generating project which is part and partial of the business of running a government because it is an election year.

“It looks like as a government we have to stop all of the building of the bridges here.

“Not only that now even the commentators are saying on Facebook that wherever the minister’s go, take pictures, record what they are saying but I am saying this afternoon that anyone can take pictures and anyone can record what they want because we as a government will continue to do our business until our last day in the office and we will continue to help youths like we have been doing for years.”

He said the new income-generating project for Nabuna Village youths, could create more opportunities to sustain their livelihoods.

“It is very encouraging to see our youths taking this initiative to start your own business venture. Your efforts in utilising your existing resources and constructing a canteen will definitely bring you the rewards of your hard work.”
