Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has warned the special administrators of various municipalities to be aware of corrupt practices that can hold up some projects in their municipality.
While addressing special administrators at an induction ceremony at the Holiday Inn Suva yesterday, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said municipalities in the past had been known to have dealt with corrupt practices.
“It can still happen,” he said.
“There are some direct ways of doing corrupt practices and there are some more devious ways of doing corrupt practices.
“People being taken up for luxuries, Christmas parties, may be couple of parties, gifts given.
“Those are the kind of things that we need to ensure does not happen.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said people should not get to the top of the queue because they had a cute relationship with someone.
“There are other forms of course, somebody may belong to a political party or somebody knows somebody who has gone to the same school or because they are probably from the same province, or same group or same religious affiliation.
“Each and every single applicant, customer or a ratepayer must be treated equally.
“So please be aware of that.”
