Problems faced by vendors at the temporary Savusavu Market have been compounded by leakages.

Market vendor Mere Macedru said the leaking run-off water would swamp their tables and ruin their produce.

Ms Macedru said water would enter the temporary market whenever it rained because there was no proper guttering in place.

“During heavy rain, water enters the market and the front gets muddy,” Ms Macedru said.

“The Savusavu Town Council needs to take urgent action,” she said.

“We all know that the wet season starts in November and runs through to April.”

In response, Savusavu Town Council special administrator Doreen Robinson said if the roof was leaking, then the market management should have been aware of it and rectified the problem.
