Additional requirements by the Tuatua Community in Labasa for their multipurpose court will be funded in the 2024-2025 financial year.

A total of $170,000 was assigned to the project as part of the $654,456 allocated in the 2022-2023 National Budget.

The court, which is built beside the road, is not fenced and has a poor drainage system. Ministry of Youth and Sports permanent secretary Rovereto Nayacalevu said there had been misconceptions of what needs to be built. But, he added remedial work was being carried out.

“Construction is according to what we had actually planned,” Mr Nayacalevu said.

“The scope of the work is also according to what we planned.”

Mr Nayacalevu said the ministry builds standard courts in all the country’s four divisions. “It’s not anything new. “It’s something we’ve done across all four divisions in terms of the funding we have been given.”
