Ageing pipes have been the cause of recurring water supply disruption problems at Bulileka in Labasa, according to Water Authority of Fiji CEO Dr Amit Chanan.

Mr Chanan told district advisory councillors in the area there were plans in place to have the pipeline section upgraded by duplicating the pipelines.

He said tenders for the project have been sought.

“Once implemented, this will ensure consistent water supply into the Volanau and Bulileka district metered areas,” Mr Chanan said.

Residents had raised concerns about continuous low water pressure and unplanned water disruptions.

More than 500 families have been facing water issues on a daily basis in the area for more than 10 years.
