Pipes at the Oncology Department of Suva’s Colonial War Memorial have rusted which are causing leakage.
Colonial War Memorial Hospital medical superintendent Dr Luke Nasedra said the leakage was expected because the pipes were 100 years old.
Dr Nasedra said the leakage noted by the contractors, Trend Builders Pte Ltd, was coming from the down pipes, which run within the cement column according to the initial construction.
“The team is waiting for the structural assessment to be conducted this year on how this can be fixed,” Dr Nasedra said.
Dr Nasedra was responding to a facebook post by the construction company which said they had discovered significant leaks while carrying out renovation works at the oncology department.
“Our dedicated crew worked tirelessly to transform the space, ensuring a safe and improved environment for patients and staff.”
When asked what the cost of renovations was and how long it would take, Dr Nasedra said the International Women’s Association would be best placed to answer queries since the project was funded by its members.
Attempts to get comments from the association were unsuccessful.
