The sugar tonnage has not increased this year, says Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh.

He told canefarmers at Bucaisau sector he wasn’t sure why.

Mr Singh said he was not sure if the weather was a contributing factor.

“I am not sure,” he said.

“We have to go back and find out where we are failing or where the problem is. We will have to wait and see after the production of sugar.”

He said the Labasa mill was performing better than the two mills in the West.

“I saw this firsthand during my recent visit to Ba with the Prime Minister.”

He said problems plaguing the industry could not be resolved overnight.
