Lal seeks scholarship, accommodation offers

LABASA’S rising sprinter, Javish Lal, is open to offers but he’s clear about what he needs before making a decision.

The year eight student of Tabia Primary School proved his talent once again yesterday in front of hundreds at Subrail Park by claiming a medal in the under-14 category at the Labasa Primary Schools Athletics competition.

“I’m happy with my performance today (yesterday), but I’m always looking to improve,” he said.

This is not the first time for Javish to win a medal in athletics as he had won gold in the U13 grade at the primary school athletics national meet in Lautoka.

“This was through the pushing and encouragement from my coaches.”

While his talent has caught the attention of schools from Suva, he is only willing to accept an offer if it includes both a full scholarship and accommodation.

“I come from a poor family, and it would be hard to live in Suva without proper support. If they offer me a scholarship and a place to stay, I’ll definitely consider it, but without that, I can’t go.”

His father Gitendra Lal said he was concerned of the son’s need while he would receive an offer to study in Suva.

“We don’t have the means to provide for him to live in Suva. It’s a big decision, and we want to make sure everything is in place first,” he said.

Lal says he hopes a school would provide better opportunity as it was sport his son loved.
