OPPOSITION Leader Inia Seruiratu has called for decisive action on the development of the port of entry in Labasa, Vanua Levu.
He said a feasibility study was conducted some time ago, but the project had yet to move forward.
“There were considerations for Malau, and the current roll-on, roll-off facility in Nabouwalu but the critical question now is: when, how, and what will it take to turn these plans into reality,” he said.
Mr Seruiratu said development of a proper port of entry up north was essential for boosting trade, tourism and economic growth in the region.
“It must be part of a bigger plan.”
In an interview, he said such projects should be part of a comprehensive, long-term plan.
“The development of the port of entry is key to unlocking the region’s economic potential. We can’t keep delaying progress on such crucial infrastructure projects.”
He said a more holistic approach was needed to address the region’s transport and logistics needs.
