The Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s in Taveuni has recently announced an impressive increase in prize money to $30,000 for the tournament.
This news has sparked excitement and anticipation as the community eagerly awaits the event’s 16th edition.
The tournament promises to be more than just a rugby competition. It will be a celebration of community spirit, sportsmanship, and the vibrant culture of Taveuni.
With increased prize money, the event aims to bring together teams from all over Fiji and create an inclusive and highly competitive tournament.
This has been made possible thanks to the steadfast support of sponsor Paradise Beverages.
Tournament director Iowane Tamani expressed his gratitude for the increased prize money and emphasised the event’s commitment to delivering a world-class tournament.
“The focus is not only on showcasing rugby excellence but also on fostering community spirit and unity,” said Tamani.
“The carnival also includes volleyball, netball, and soccer, providing live entertainment for sports enthusiasts. The event aims to be a platform for showcasing a wide range of sporting talent and celebrating the diverse athletic abilities of the community.
“Last year, efforts were made to enhance facilities and combat the impacts of climate change. Looking ahead, the organisers have announced plans to construct a 400m track, benefiting all high schools in Taveuni.”
The sponsorship of Wairiki 7s is $30,000 with the winner in the men’s competition to walk away with $12,000, $2,000 for the women’s winner and $4,000 for the winner of the U21 division.
The tournament will be held from January 17-20.
