Fijiana fails to impress

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team faced a tough challenge at the Madrid 7s tournament, marking their elimination from the competition after their third consecutive loss.In their final pool game yesterday, they clashed with a formidable Ireland side and were unable to secure a victory, ultimately succumbing to a 26-19 loss.

Despite a promising start with early tries from Ilisapeci Delaiwau and captain Lavenia Cavuru within the first two minutes of play, the team lost momentum as Ireland rallied back.

The Irish team displayed resilience and skill, scoring three tries before half time to take a commanding 19-12 lead.

Players such as Amee Leigh Murphy and Bheibhinn Parsons showcased their talent and contributed to Ireland’s strong performance.

Although Fijiana’s Ana Maria Naimasi attempted to ignite a comeback with a crucial third try, Ireland’s determination proved too strong for the Fijian team.

A swift response from Amee Leigh Murphy, who added another try to Ireland’s tally, sealed the fate of the match with a final score of 26-19 in favour of Ireland.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s side won their second pool game, defeating Ireland 26-21.
